Injury Prevention

Reducing Injury Through Education

Our program strives to prevent injuries and advocate for policies that improve the community’s health and safety. We focus our education and prevention efforts on falls, motor vehicle crashes, and urban violence.

Our Initiatives

Falls

Falls are the leading cause of injury for our trauma patients. We offer introductory level falls prevention presentations for older adults that can be delivered virtually. Topics include risk factors for falling and things we can do to prevent falls, such as environmental changes, exercise, and more.

Motor Vehicle Crashes

We offer safe driving educational activities for teens that can be delivered virtually. Topics include virtual driving simulations, education on the dangers of drinking and driving, and a presentation focused on distracted driving.

Urban Violence

Cardiff Model maps areas of increased violence to better drive community interventions. Grady and other facilities provide data like the manner of injury, weapon, date, time, and location. Community interventions have included beautification, community gardens, surveillance cameras, and improved lighting.

Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) is an international volunteer-run conflict transformation program. AVP-trained facilitators conduct workshops to develop participants’ abilities to resolve conflicts without manipulation, coercion, or violence.
