INJURY PREVENTION

Reducing injury through education

Our program strives to prevent injuries and advocate for policies that improve the community’s health and safety. We focus our education and prevention efforts on falls, motor vehicle crashes, and urban violence.

OVERVIEW

OUR INITIATIVES

Through data-driven strategies and community engagement, we work to prevent injuries before they happen.

  • Falls: The leading cause of injury for our trauma patients. We offer virtual falls prevention presentations for older adults, covering risk factors, environmental changes, exercise, and more.
  • Motor Vehicle Crashes: We provide virtual safe driving education for teens, including driving simulations, lessons on the dangers of drinking and driving, and a distracted driving presentation.
  • Urban Violence: We use the Cardiff Model to map high-risk areas and implement community interventions like beautification projects, community gardens, surveillance cameras, and improved lighting. We also support the Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP), which offers workshops to help participants resolve conflicts without manipulation, coercion, or violence.
