Is a Lung Screening Right for Me?
Should I Be Screened?
A screening exam may be right for you if you are not currently experiencing any symptoms – no cough, loss of appetite, weight loss, or shortness of breath. This exam identifies suspicious lung nodules in their earliest stages when they are most treatable. If you are 50-79 years old and have smoked at least one pack a day for 20 years, are currently smoking, or have quit within the last 15 years, this quick, painless lung screening may be right for you.
Why Screen For Lung Cancer?
In the United States, 21% of adults are current or former smokers, and up to 90% of lung cancer deaths occur in people who are heavy smokers. Since your age and smoking history are strongly associated with lung cancer, you may need a lung screening.
Why Use Low-Dose Computed Tomography (LDCT)?
Low-dose CT is a quick, painless scan covered by most insurance if you meet the screening criteria. Based on your responses, we think you could benefit from this kind of lung screening. The next step is scheduling an appointment with a physician at Grady or our Camp Creek location.
