Doctor's Bio
Stella D. Nelms, PhD, is a board-certified health psychologist who specializes in helping patients cope with chronic pain, serious illness, and other health challenges. At Grady, she provides evidence-based therapy focused on the emotional and psychological effects of living with complex or long-term medical conditions.
Dr. Nelms works with patients to manage pain, adjust to changes in their health, and develop strategies that support their emotional well-being and quality of life. Her clinical interests include chronic pain, chronic illness, and palliative care.
Dr. Nelms earned her doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin and completed advanced clinical training at the Central Texas VA Medical Center and Medical College of Virginia. Her research focuses on improving care for people living with chronic illness and pain, including understanding and addressing disparities in healthcare.
In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Nelms is dedicated to educating and training future psychologists and healthcare professionals.
