Doctor's Bio
Dr. Lekshmi Kumar, MD, is an emergency medicine physician at Grady with specialized expertise in emergency medical services (EMS) and prehospital care. She works closely with paramedics, EMTs, 911 systems, and emergency teams to improve the care patients receive before they arrive at the hospital.
Dr. Kumar completed her emergency medicine residency at Mayo Clinic, followed by advanced fellowship training in EMS at Emory University. She also earned a Master of Public Health with a focus on global health.
In addition to caring for patients at Grady, Dr. Kumar serves as a medical director for 911 EMS systems across metro Atlanta, providing clinical leadership and helping improve the quality and safety of emergency care throughout the region. She also provides medical leadership for major Atlanta events, including the Peachtree Road Race and Atlanta Marathon. Her work focuses on strengthening emergency response, advancing EMS education, and ensuring patients receive high-quality care from the moment they call for help.
