James A. Blair, FACS, MD

Dr. James A. Blair Jr., MD, is an orthopedic trauma surgeon and Co-Director of the Limb Salvage and Reconstruction Center at Grady. He specializes in treating severe bone and joint injuries, complex fractures, and injuries that may put patients at risk of losing a limb.

Dr. Blair brings years of experience treating serious injuries, including those sustained in combat. He served as an orthopedic surgeon in the U.S. Army, with deployments to Afghanistan and Syria, and earned the Bronze Star Medal in 2015. He retired from military service in 2020 as a Lieutenant Colonel.

Dr. Blair earned his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Brooke Army Medical Center. He received advanced training in orthopedic trauma at the Florida Orthopaedic Institute. Before joining Grady in 2023, he served as Director of Orthopaedic Trauma at the Medical College of Georgia.

At Grady, Dr. Blair focuses on helping patients recover from life-changing injuries, save injured limbs whenever possible, and regain movement and independence.

Outside of work, he enjoys ultramarathons, obstacle course races, and spending time with his wife, two children, and their dog, Sierra.
