Doctor's Bio

Dr. Elizabeth R. Benjamin received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Harvard University and continued to UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Rutgers University, where she received her Doctorate of Medicine and a Ph.D. in molecular genetics and cell biology in 2004. She then moved to Los Angeles where she completed her General Surgery Residency at UCLA. She followed this with fellowship training in Trauma and Surgical Critical Care at the University of Texas Southwestern, Parkland Hospital.

After completion of her training, she joined the faculty at the University of Southern California in 2012 as an Assistant and then Associate Professor of Surgery.  Dr. Elizabeth R. Benjamin worked focused at the Los Angeles County Medical Center where she specialized in Trauma and Acute Care Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. She acted as the Director of the International Research fellowship, the Associate Director of the Cadaver Simulation Lab, the Director of Quality Improvement, and the Associate Trauma Medical Director.  In 2020, Dr. Benjamin was recruited to Emory University and Grady Memorial Hospital as the Trauma Medical Director.
