Sophia A. Hussen, MD
Dr. Sophia Hussen, MD, is an infectious diseases physician at Grady who specializes in HIV care and prevention, with a particular focus on adolescents and young adults. She is committed to helping patients access compassionate, respectful care that supports both their physical and mental health.
In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Hussen conducts community-based HIV research focused on improving health outcomes and overall well-being among young Black gay and bisexual men and other men who have sex with men. Her work explores ways to improve HIV treatment, increase access to mental health services, and better understand the social factors that can affect a person’s health and ability to receive care.
Dr. Hussen also has an interest in HIV and mental health within Ethiopian communities. Through her clinical care and research, she works closely with communities to identify barriers to care and develop approaches that better meet the needs of the people Grady serves.
