Grady’s Nurse Extern Program allows rising seniors or soon-to-graduate nursing students to build clinical competencies. Externs work under the direct supervision of a RN mentor who will supervise and direct their learning needs.
Program details
Grady’s Student Nurse Extern (SNE) Program offers nursing students the opportunity to build clinical competencies while supporting unit operations. SNEs work in various roles, including Nursing Support Technician (NST), Unit Clerk (UC), or Patient Safety Monitor (PSM), and may also shadow nurses under RN or LPN supervision.
Using the nursing process, SNEs assist in direct and indirect patient care across all age groups, gaining experience in assessment, care coordination, patient education, and professional development. Shadowing opportunities are based on unit staffing and shift needs.
We hire for the SNE Program in the spring and fall, and applicants must have at least one year of nursing school remaining to apply.
