PHARMACY
PGY-2 CRITICAL CARE SPECIALTY RESIDENCY
The 12-month PGY2 critical care pharmacy residency program is designed to develop and refine clinical, leadership, research, performance improvement, and teaching skills within the practice of critical care.
Program details
Prerequisites
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy
- Successful completion of an ASHP accredited or candidate status PGY-1 Pharmacy residency
- Personal and leadership qualifications for successful completion of a specialty residency
- Eligibility for licensure in the state of Georgia
- A letter of interest stating why the applicant desires a specialty residency at GHS
- Current Curriculum Vitae (include completed and anticipated residency rotations)
- Official pharmacy school transcripts
- Four (4) references completed on the PhORCAS Recommendation Request Form.
- Two recommendations must be from clinical pharmacist preceptors who taught the resident during a PGY-1 pharmacy residency rotation.
- One recommendation must be from the residency director.
- One recommendation from a person of the applicant’s choosing. This recommendation must be from someone who has worked with the applicant in a clinical setting or as an advisor during their PGY1 year.
- Residency Questionnaire: Please answer the following questions and upload them into PhoRCAS:
- What do you wish to achieve by the conclusion of the residency?
- Describe the ideal PGY-2 residency program.
- Which clinical rotations in your residency program did you most like and which did you least like? Why?
- What would your most recent immediate supervisor say are your strengths and weaknesses?
- Describe your most rewarding experience in your residency program or pharmacy school.
- When will you complete your PGY-1 training?
Applicants invited for an on-site interview may be asked to present a professional presentation on a topic related to clinical pharmacy practice (may present residency research project if some data collection and analysis has been completed).

- Surgical Intensive Care 1 (8 weeks)
- Neurocritical Care 1 (8 weeks)
- Medical Intensive Care 1 (8 weeks)
- Burn Intensive Care 1 (4 – 8 weeks)
- Emergency Medicine 1 (4 weeks)·
- Research/Admin/Intensive Care Rotation (3-4 weeks evenly distributed over the course of the year)
- 3 to 4 weeks each from three of the following options
- Cardiothoracic Surgery (Main Emory Campus)
- Surgical Intensive Care 1 (8 weeks)
- Neurocritical Care 1 (8 weeks)
- Medical Intensive Care 1 (8 weeks)
- Burn Intensive Care 1 (4 – 8 weeks)
- Emergency Medicine 1 (4 weeks)·
- Research/Admin/Intensive Care Rotation (3-4 weeks evenly distributed over the course of the year)
