Grady Health System’s Emergency Department has been selected as a recipient of the 2025 Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Lantern Award. This honor recognizes emergency departments that demonstrate excellence in improving patient care and supporting staff well-being.

To receive the Lantern Award, departments must complete a rigorous application demonstrating strong teamwork, innovative approaches to patient care, ongoing staff development, and community involvement. They must also show measurable improvements and a lasting commitment to delivering high-quality care and maintaining a positive workplace.

“This award reflects the dedication, collaboration, and innovation our emergency department team brings to every shift,” said Ashley Gresham, Vice President of Emergency Services at Grady. “It highlights our commitment to creating a supportive environment where both patients and staff feel valued and empowered.”

Key initiatives that contributed to Grady’s recognition include the introduction of the Traffic Control Nurse role, which has streamlined patient flow and improved coordination, and the STAT IR program, which speeds up access to specialized imaging and treatment for trauma patients experiencing severe bleeding, helping save lives through faster, coordinated care.

As a Lantern Award recipient, Grady will be recognized in upcoming ENA publications, on the ENA website, and during Emergency Nursing 2025, the association’s annual conference in New Orleans, September 17-20.
