Doctor's Bio
Dr. Lauren M. Postlewait, MD, FACS, is an Assistant Professor (Division of Surgical Oncology, Department of Surgery) at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Postlewait’s clinical interests are providing comprehensive, multidisciplinary care for breast cancer and breast disease patients. She provides clinical care primarily at Grady Memorial Hospital, where she serves as the Medical Director of the Breast Center at Grady’s Cancer Center.
Dr. Postlewait attended Emory University School of Medicine, where she received her MD. She remained at Emory University for training, completing a clinical residency in General Surgery and a two-year research fellowship in Surgical Oncology. She is board-certified in general surgery. She then a completed a clinical fellowship in Breast Surgical Oncology at the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
As an educator, she serves as the Associate Program Director of the Emory Breast Surgical Oncology fellowship and works to train the next generation of breast surgeons. Nationally, she is an active member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology.
As for research, she has worked in clinical investigation and outcomes analysis of patients treated for advanced and inflammatory breast cancer. She is also interested in optimizing the treatment of breast cancer patients through improving patient education techniques and investigating appropriate de-escalation of surgical techniques to reduce morbidity while maintaining excellent oncologic outcomes in the context of multidisciplinary care. In addition, she has a passion for clinical ethics as well as identifying and improving health disparities.
