PGY-2 NEUROLOGY SPECIALTY RESIDENCY  

Grady Health System’s PGY2 Neurology specialty pharmacy residency is one of only two ASHP-accredited programs nationwide. It offers tailored inpatient and outpatient neuroscience experiences, including neurology clinics, neurointensive care, neuro-trauma, neurointerventions, general neurology, and neurosurgery.

Program details

Prerequisites  (to be submitted by January 5th)

  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited (or pending accreditation) College of Pharmacy in the United States
  • Successful completion of an ASHP-accredited (or in candidate status for accreditation) PGY1 residency program·      Eligibility for licensure in the state of Georgia
  •  Letter of interest stating why the applicant wants to pursue the Neurology specialty residency at Grady Memorial Hospital
  • Current Curriculum Vitae (include completed and anticipated residency rotations)
  • Four (4) references completed on the PhORCAS Recommendation Form. Formal, typed letters are not required but may be uploaded by the reference if desired. If an applicant cannot meet the reference requirements below, please reach out to the residency program director for exception.
    • Two recommendations must be from clinical pharmacist preceptors who taught the resident during a PGY-1 pharmacy residency rotation.
    • One recommendation must be from the residency director.
    • One recommendation from a person of the applicant’s choosing. This recommendation must be from someone who has worked with the applicant in a clinical setting or as an advisor during their PGY1 year.
  • Residency Questionnaire: Please answer the following questions and upload them into PhORCAS:
    • What do you wish to achieve by the conclusion of the residency?
    • Describe the ideal PGY-2 residency program.
    • Which clinical rotations in your residency program did you most like and which did you least like? Why?
    • What would your most recent supervisor/preceptor/program director say are your strengths and areas of improvement? Please provide examples.
    • When will you complete your PGY-1 training?
    • Will you be eligible to sit for the Georgia practical exam in June? (for those applicants who do not currently have a Georgia pharmacist license)

Applicants invited to interview may be required to present a 15 – 20 minute (time includes ~ 5 minutes of Q&A) professional presentation on a topic related to clinical pharmacy practice (may present residency research project if some data collection and analysis has been completed).

Representatives will be available at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting Residency Showcase. Interviews will be scheduled in late January or February.

The following are required and should be uploaded to PhORCAS:

  • A Letter of Interest stating why the applicant desires a specialty residency at Grady Health
  • Current Curriculum Vitae (include completed and anticipated residency rotations)
  • Three (3) references completed on the PhORCAS Recommendation Form.
  • One recommendation must be from the PGY-1 residency director

    • What do you wish to achieve by the conclusion of the residency?

    • Describe your most rewarding experience during PGY-1 training.
    • When will you complete your PGY-1 training?

  • Develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives for neurology practice areas
  • Prepare residents  for advanced patient care or other specialized positions
  • Develop and refine clinical, leadership, research, performance improvement, and teaching skills within the practice of neurology

  • Emergency Medicine (Required only for residents who have never had an ED rotation as a PGY1 resident)
  • Medical Intensive Care·  Academia (longitudinal – 5 months) – under development (3 hours/week)
  • Presentation and Didactic Learning (52 weeks, 1 to 2 days per month dedicated project time plus 2 hours per week)
  • On-Call (50 to 52 weeks, 24 hour shifts scheduled every 8 to 12 days (approximately 25-30 call shifts)
  • Staffing (48 weeks; 4 hour shifts every 14 days (approximately 15-20 shifts)
