Grady provides research, treatment and community outreach services for adults, adolescents and children with a wide variety of chronic and severe mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, personality disorders, anxiety disorders, substance abuse and mental retardation. We serve as the Central Fulton Community Mental Health Center, as well as provide emergency psychiatric services and referrals for patients in Fulton and DeKalb counties. We offer the largest academic community mental health center in the Southeast. More than half of all psychiatry residents in the state of Georgia trained at Grady. Specialty services include emergency and crisis, community outreach and forensic psychiatry, among others.
Grady's Adult Outpatient Services, including the services conducted at Florida Hall and the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Peer Supports Programs conducted in Main Grady on 13C, have moved to our new Park Place location.
Adult Mental Health Intake is also located at Park Place. Appointments are strongly encouraged as walk-in capacity is very limited. Walk-ins are encouraged to arrive early, however, are not guaranteed to be seen.
Grady receives more than 15,000 patient visits a year. Our Emergency and Crisis Center is one of the five busiest in the nation and serves as an emergency back-up system for the region’s mental health, addiction, law enforcement, telephone and mobile crisis, homeless shelter, and criminal justice providers.
Community outreach is a large part of our services. We provide psychiatric services to homeless shelters, supportive living facilities, geriatric living facilities and other community-based programs serving patients who are unable or unwilling to come to Grady on a regular basis to receive mental health care.
With the only forensic psychiatry training program in Georgia and one of the first programs accredited in the United States, Grady provides pretrial evaluations for Fulton County courts as well as treatment and support services in the Atlanta City Detention Center to help reduce psychiatric emergency visits.
