Rondi B. Gelbard

Rondi B. Gelbard, MD, FACS

Dr. Gelbard received her medical degree from UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, after which she completed a general surgery residency at NY Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University Medical Center. Her postgraduate training also included a clinical fellowship in surgical critical care at the University of Miami/Ryder Trauma Center and a clinical fellowship in trauma at the LAC + USC Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Since joining the Emory Department of Surgery at Grady in 2013, she has been involved in the creation of policies and interdisciplinary guidelines in support of standardization of practices in the surgical ICU. She was appointed associate director of the SICU in 2016 and associate program director of the surgical critical care fellowship in 2017.
Dr. Gelbard is also interested in surgical education and surgical education research. She completed a surgical education research fellowship through the Association for Surgical Education, and currently co-chairs the Emory University Surgical Education Research Subcommittee, teaching faculty and trainees about education research, assisting with review of specific projects, and facilitating interdisciplinary research within Emory and Grady.
Her other research interests include the effect of inflammatory biomarker expression on wound healing in trauma patients, and she is currently a sub-investigator on a DOD-funded study correlating outcomes data with biomarker information among patients with severe abdominal trauma.
