Personal Statement: As a fourth generation graduate of Meharry Medical College, I am committed to the compassionate provision of excellent health care to all infants born at or transported into Grady Memorial Hospital. Both Emory and Grady have been very supportive of my professional development since my arrival as a pediatric intern in 1982. Working at Grady under the mentorship of Dr. Al Brann has produced great promise for local public health advancement. His Interconceptual Care Project piloted at Grady has now become a Georgia Medicaid program. This program of caring for mothers has the potential of improving the lives of prematurely born infants and reducing infant mortality. I also had the great pleasure of working with Dr. Reese Clark during the clinical trial of inhaled nitric oxide that greatly influenced the FDA’s approval of this life-saving agent to infants with severe pulmonary hypertension. I have been greatly inspired by the many charitable donations given to the Grady nurseries which have ranged from cash donations of local schoolchildren, to the time of numerous volunteers, and even to the complete outfitting of family and educational rooms. I remain fully committed to championing the aligned purposes of Grady and Emory and providing excellent and compassionate health care delivery to all.
