Burn Center Medical Director Dr. Walter Ingram has been named the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s 2013 Physician of the Year. At its annual Health-Care Heroes event held May 16, the Atlanta Business Chronicle (ABC) recognized Ingram for “dedicating his entire medical career to the treatment of burned children and adults.”
For more than 20 years, Ingram has worked in Grady’s Burn Center, overseeing the care of thousands of patients who have suffered minor to severe burns as well as other serious wounds and complicated skin infections.
Under Dr. Ingram’s leadership, the Burn Center has almost doubled in size, significantly improved patient outcomes, and has received verification from the American Burn Association (ABA) - the country’s highest recognition for meeting the quality standards in patient care.
The Atlanta Business Chronicle’s annual Health-Care Heroes event serves to honor “the superstars of the health-care field…Health-Care Heroes consistently go above and beyond the call of duty in an already demanding field of work.”
“I am truly honored to have received this award,” said Ingram.

At Grady Health System, we continually evaluate how we practice medicine. We believe our community is entitled to quality healthcare. To provide that kind of care, an organization needs to embrace practice and process improvements based on scientific evidence and by listening to the public. Our leadership team, staff members, volunteers and patients actively participate in the process of quality improvement. It is the responsibility of everyone on a healthcare team to help create a culture of quality.[More]
