A.D. "Pete" Correll
Grady Memorial Hospital Corporation Board Chairman A.D. "Pete" Correll is the recipient of Business to Business Magazine’s 2011 "Legend of the Year Award." Correll was honored for his extraordinary achievements and contributions to the Atlanta business and philanthropic community. The award was presented at the magazine's 14th annual awards event, held Jan. 26 at the Atlanta History Center.
"These awards strive to celebrate the Atlanta executives, leaders and companies that are creating and nurturing businesses and initiatives that will continue to be sustainable and valuable for Atlanta businesses and our community," says Business to Business publisher Stephen Reynolds.
Correll is the former chairman and CEO of Georgia Pacific, the current chairman of Atlanta Equity Investors, and chair of the Grady Memorial Hospital Corporation Board of Directors. He calls his success an "American miracle."
Correll has been an integral part of the financial turnaround of Grady Health System. As a volunteer leader of the Greater Grady Task Force, he helped develop a plan that not only brought the health system back from the brink of financial collapse, but also charted a course for a more secure financial future.
That plan led to the not-for-profit Grady Memorial Hospital Corporation and a capital campaign that has raised more than $300 million for improvements at the health system. Those improvements, combined with new leadership and more efficient operations, led to an $80 million turnaround in 2009 and Grady's first profit in a decade.
