John M. Haupert, FACHE

John Haupert is President and CEO of Grady Health System in Atlanta, GA. Haupert began his tenure at Grady in October 2011. Grady Health System is the safety net healthcare system serving Fulton and DeKalb counties in Georgia. Grady is the primary Level I trauma center and burn center for the Atlanta metropolitan area. In addition, Grady is home to many nationally recognized clinical services including the Marcus Neuroscience and Stroke Center, the Correll Cardiac Center, the Georgia Cancer Center and Grady EMS. Grady also serves as the primary training site for the Morehouse and Emory University schools of medicine.

A native of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, he is a graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio where he earned a Master of Science Degree in Health Care Administration. He also received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Trinity.

His career in healthcare management began at Methodist Health System in Dallas, Texas in 1992 where he served for 14 years in various roles including President of one of the system’s hospitals and as Executive Vice President for Corporate Services and Business Development. In October 2006, Haupert left the Methodist Health System to become the Chief Operating Officer at Parkland.

Haupert is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and recipient of the ACHE Regent's Leadership Award. Haupert served as the ACHE Regent for North and East Texas. In addition, he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Dallas/Fort Worth Hospital Council, Chairman of the Board of Directors of CareFlite and as a delegate to the American Hospital Association’s Regional Policy Board.

In Atlanta, Haupert is a member of the Atlanta Rotary Club and serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Central Atlanta Progress as well as The Atlanta Committee for Progress.

Chief Operating Officer Christopher R. Mosley

Christopher R. Mosley, FACHE, DSL, is Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. He joined the executive team in April, 2013.

An experienced healthcare leader in hospital operations at academic medical centers, large health systems and community hospitals, Mosley most recently served as Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. He is a former Chief Operating Officer for St. Anthony’s Hospitals in Denver and former President and CEO of Chesapeake Regional Medical Center in Chesapeake, Virginia.

A graduate of Alabama State University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Business/Management, Mosley earned a Master's of Public and Private Management, Health/Health Care Administration/Management from Birmingham Southern College. He received a Doctorate in Strategic Leadership from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Named one of Modern Healthcare’s Top 25 Minority Healthcare Executives in 2006, Mosley was the recipient of the National Association of Health Services Executives Young Healthcare Executive of the Year Award in 2003 and the organization's President's Award in 2009. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, past president of the National Association of Health Services Executives and a former member of the American Hospital Association Regional Policy Board.

Chief Financial Officer Mark Meyer

Mark Meyer joined the executive team as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in April 2012. A graduate of Oklahoma State University, Meyer comes to Grady with an extensive background in healthcare and health system finance. Before coming to Grady, Meyer served as the Chief Financial Officer for Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, the flagship of the 14-hospital Texas Health Resources System based in Dallas and Fort Worth Texas. Meyer has also worked with the Methodist Health System in Dallas, where he served as Chief Financial Officer of Methodist Charlton Medical Center and later as Vice President of Financial Service for the entire Methodist system. Before beginning his career in healthcare finance, Meyer worked as an audit supervisor for Grant Thornton.

A senior healthcare executive with more than 25 years of health-related experience, Timothy Jefferson holds a bachelor's degree in political science and a juris doctorate from Columbia University Law School; in addition to his general counsel role, Jefferson also served as Grady's chief operating officer from 2001 - 2003 and interim president and CEO in 2007; prior to joining Grady in 1998, Jefferson served in various leadership roles, including senior vice president/general counsel at D.C. Health & Hospital Public Benefit Corp., senior associate general counsel at Howard University and senior attorney for the Department of Health & Human Services/National Institutes of Health; Jefferson is a graduate of Leadership Atlanta (class of 2002) and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, National Association of Public Hospitals, National Association of Health Services Executives and American Health Lawyers Association.

Chief of Staff Curtis Lewis, MD, MBA

Noted as one of America's best doctors in Castle Connolly's book, "America's Top Doctors," Dr. Lewis is an interventional radiologist and serves as Grady's senior vice president of medical affairs/chief of staff; Lewis received his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine and his master's in business administration from Kennesaw State University; he is a cardiovascular healthcare fellow, a Society of Cardiovascular & Interventional Radiology fellow and a member of the National Hispanic Medical Association and the Cardiovascular & Interventional Radiological Society of Europe; Lewis has served as an associate editor for the "Journal of Vascular & Interventional Radiology" and as chair of both the Committee on Standards of Practice for the American College of Radiology and the Standards Division for the National Society of Cardiovascular & Interventional Radiology.

Chief Nursing Officer Rhonda A. Scott, PhD, RN, CS

Holding a bachelor's and a master's degree in nursing, as well as a PhD in nursing science, Rhonda A. Scott's diverse healthcare background includes leadership roles as an administrator, clinical nurse specialist, consultant, educator, researcher, author and entrepreneur; she joined Grady in 2004 and has over 20 years of nursing experience at some of the finest healthcare institutions in the U.S., including the University of Chicago Medical Center, University of Alabama Medical Center, Louis A. Weiss Memorial Hospital, Saint Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta - and others; Scott is a member of several professional nursing associations and has served as president of the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists; she was awarded Tenet's "Outstanding Chief Nursing Officer Award" and received the "Up and Comers Award" from Modern Healthcare magazine for rising stars in healthcare management; Scott is often credited for successfully eliminating nurse contract labor, improving nursing, patient and physician satisfaction and enhancing nurse recruitment and retention; she is a nurse executive fellow at the Wharton School of Business, widely published in leading nursing journals and an internationally sought-after speaker.

Larry Callahan

Larry A. Callahan joined the executive team as Senior Vice President/Chief Human Resources Officer on March 1, 2012.

Callahan brings more than 25 years of human resources leadership experience to Grady. He has served as System Chief Human Resources Officer for the University Health System of Eastern Carolina; Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at the University of Chicago Medical Center and Vice President of Human Resources at Norton Healthcare in Louisville, Kentucky. Callahan joins us from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) in Washington, DC where he led efforts in Leadership Development and Talent Management. He served in senior HR executive roles for multiple divisions of Siemens USA, which is the domestic operations of the global giant Siemens AG prior to making the transition to not for profit healthcare systems.

Callahan received his Bachelors of Arts degree from West Virginia State University and his Masters of Arts from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. In addition, he has successfully completed the prestigious Leadership Develop Program (LDP) at the Center for Creative Leadership and the highest level of executive leadership development at Siemens AG. He is active in the community and brings a strong orientation in enabling organizations to reach their strategic objectives through the development and implementation of strong people policies, programs and processes

Chief Information Officer Deborah Cancilla

Deborah Cancilla served the last 14 years at the Erie County Medical Center, Corp. (ECMC) in Buffalo, N.Y. in various capacities in the IT department, including seven years as CIO. During her tenure at ECMC, Cancilla was recognized as a leading expert in health information technology. Through her efforts, the department received a first place institutional ranking for excellence in service and support, and she positioned ECMC within the top 10 percent of national healthcare systems for use of technology and clinical systems. She also played a lead role in development of the WNYHealthenet RHIO (regional health information office) for sharing patient clinical and financial data.

Most recently, in her SVP, CIO role at Grady Health System, Cancilla has completed a wholesale replacement of the Health System’s network, transitioned the facility to Voip, updated the desktop computing platform, and completed installation of EPIC’s clinical and revenue software in a big bang go-live. Grady now is positioned with few facilities nationwide who have achieved HIMSS level 6 recognition.

Cancilla also implemented a wireless network and Internet café at ECMC, facilitated a major PBX upgrade and implemented a bar code and wireless transmission technology on nursing units for EKG, bedside medication administration and Alaris pump updates to assist with proper patient identification and safety.

Cancilla has worked in the banking industry and for the Internal Revenue Service. She earned a master's degree in global business and a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, both from Daemen College in Buffalo.

Lindsay Caulfield

Lindsay Caulfield joined the executive team in January 2012. Before coming to Grady, Caulfield served as Executive Vice President at the Atlanta office of global public relations agency Cohn & Wolfe. Her work there included developing and leading fully integrated marketing communications programs, public relations initiatives and strategic planning for Fortune 500 companies as well as several local brands.

Caulfield received a Bachelor of Science in English from Northeastern University in Boston and earned a Master of Science in Health Communication from Tufts University School of Medicine.

Leon L. Haley Jr., MD, is the Deputy Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief of Emergency Medicine for the Grady Health System and Vice-Chairman for Grady Clinical Affairs and Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Emory University.

A Pittsburgh native, Dr. Haley holds degrees from Brown University and the Universities of Pittsburgh and Michigan. Dr. Haley is Board-Certified in Emergency Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

He is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American College of Physician Executives. He is a member of the IOM Committee on Health and Insurance Status.

Dr. Haley has several honors and awards including the Atlanta Business Chronicles’ Healthcare Heroes and "Up and Comers Awards", Georgia Trend Magazine’s "40 Leaders Under 40" and Georgia Association of Physician Assistants Physician of the Year Award.

Dr. Haley volunteers with Leadership Georgia, Leadership Atlanta, the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, Camp Twin Lakes, Girls on the Run Inc., the Junior League of Atlanta Community Advisory Board, the Griffith Leadership Center and a member of the Omega Psi Phi and Sigma Pi Phi Fraternities.

Kelvin J. Holloway is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Morehouse School of Medicine, and Deputy Senior Vice President/Deputy Chief of Staff of Medical Affairs at Grady Health System. Major responsibilities in this role include leadership and direction of the organization’s performance improvement/patient safety efforts and the identification of opportunities to enhance patient outcomes through the proactive evaluation and transformation of processes and systems.

Dr. Holloway is a native Atlantan and a product of the Atlanta Public School System. He completed his undergraduate work at Georgia Institute of Technology and received his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He completed his residency training in Pediatrics in 1981 and his fellowship in Allergy, Asthma and Immunology in 1983. Following his residency training, Dr. Holloway served as an instructor of Pediatrics’ at Howard University. He went on to private practice in the metropolitan Atlanta area (DeKalb County) for seven years, prior to joining Morehouse School of Medicine as a full-time faculty member. He received his M.B.A. degree from Kennesaw State University in 2003.

Dr. Holloway is a member of several boards, including the Southeastern Chapter of the American Lung Association, National Center for Healthy Housing, Howard University Medical Alumni Association, Atlanta Children’s Shelter and the Coalition for a Healthy and Responsible Georgia (CHARGE). He is the current chair of the Allergy, Asthma and Immunology section of the National Medical Association. He is the recipient of several awards and honors, including recognition as one of America’s Leading Physicians by Black Enterprise Magazine in 2003 and 2008, featured in Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Who’s Who in Atlanta Health Care, induction in the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and received the Project Catalyst Service Award from the City of Atlanta.

He is a member of various national and local professional organizations, including the American College of Physician Executives, National Association of Public Hospitals, the Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, National Medical Association and the Atlanta Medical Association. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and the American Board of Pediatrics.

An executive healthcare leader with an extensive background in project management, hospital operations and team facilitation, Tindall holds a bachelor of arts degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and a master's degree in both business and hospital administration from Georgia State University. Tindall has been with Grady for 21 years, beginning as an administrative resident in 1988, and has skillfully handled a variety of roles and responsibilities, including interim executive vice president/COO, vice president of general and ancillary services and director of facilities planning. Tindall is a graduate of Leadership Georgia Hospital Association and Leadership North Fulton (class of 2002), is a Fellow of the American college of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and member of the Georgia Association of Healthcare Executives.

Michael Wright, MBA, FACHE

Michael Wright is the former chief operating officer for Provena Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin, Illinois. Wright has also served as the vice president of operations at WakeMed in Raleigh, North Carolina and regional director of operations for Johns Hopkins Community Physicians.

Wright is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and an active member of the National Association of Health Services Executives. He received a bachelor’s degree in health administration from the University of Maryland-Baltimore County and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Baltimore.

Matthew Hicks, Vice President of Government Relations

Matthew Hicks

As Vice President of Government Relations, Matthew Hicks is responsible for managing the vital relationships between Grady and its government partners.

Hicks brings more than a decade of experience in public policy to the health system, including work at the local, state and federal levels. He most recently served as Associate Legislative Director for the Association County Commissioners of Georgia. In addition, Hicks managed public affairs efforts and special projects for the organization.

Earlier in his career, Hicks worked on social services and healthcare matters for United States Senator Zell Miller. He also served as a healthcare provider, working as an emergency medical technician throughout and after college. Hicks is a graduate of Emory University, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.
